For a recent project at university we were asked to take some photos in the style of another photographer. I looked at some of Alastair Lee’s recent work where he has photographed landscapes, in particular his book on the Lake District and pictures of Mt Asgard. I was never going to get anywhere like that so I settled for a trip to the Peak District. The weather was very good luckily, and I managed to get some shots I was happy with.
I took this near Great tor, Bamford. I went up there to try and get some shots of the sun setting over Kinder Scout but the I don’t like them as much as this one. I think this shot has a lot of power, the colours are striking and there is a sharp contrast.
This was taken looking over the Lady Bower Reservoir as the sun was setting. This is my most favourite image of the 3. I think the sun breaking through the clouds is quite dramatic.
This was taken looking over the Woodhead Reservoir at about 5:30am. The sun was rising and I wanted to capture the reflection in the lake. I have learnt that landscape photography requires a lot of patience and is a case of being in the right place at the right time.
I think these pictures could have been improved by using a ND grad filter, to allow a longer shutter speed.
